The power of a hand drawn sketch design... In a very short space of time, with an understanding of what the client is hoping to achieve, a hand drawn sketch like this can communicate ideas so effectively. The simple addition of a modern form that slabs the front and back of the home to tie both facades together can elevate both the internal and external elements of this home. #porchdesign #designfirst #somersetarchitects
3 options for this pool house design. The client was looking to create a gym and spa style changing area to add a touch of luxury to their existing pool. The overhung roof is designed to prevent overheating whilst maintaining the expansive glazing and view of the water. Perfect for family afternoons by the pool. #poolhouse #studioscaramanga #somersetarchitects
Before and after... It's great to look back through site visit shots and progress photos once a project is completed. It can be hard to remember what was there before once a project is completed and these side by sides give a real appreciation for the level of transformation achieved by the self build Somerset client. The courtyard drenched in light and the 21m glazed wall make this barn conversion a pretty exceptional space to be in. Dairy Barn--> Workshop --> Home #studioscaramanga #barnconversion #transformation #somersetarchitects
'Cow-worn corners' It is all about the details in this Somerset barn conversion. Stones lifted from the corners of existing walls were treated with quiet reverence, as they carry a memory of this building's history. Worn smooth by the flanks of dairy cows, who once scratched and leaned against the barn's inner columns, their softened edges speak of the daily rhythms of the barn. Set again within the structure they offer a gentle reminder of the barn's agricultural past. #barnconversion #somersetarchitects #dairybarn #somersetlife
Progress on site at this redesign and extension in Cheshire. Looking to reimagine the downstairs layout and connect the kitchen to the outside space will allow the client to feel connected to their land and the fat reaching views across the fields. #cheshire #extension #somersetarchitects

Oh, we love a staircase. This sweeping, semi-circular staircase brings drama and light to this Somerset barn conversion. The steel handrail and balustrade remind us of a fossilised ammonite. There is something so satisfying about the relationship between the cast concrete treads, the steel and the light. Light feels like the third material in this space. What we love most about this staircase is that it was cast and polished on site by the self build client. The quality of the workmanship is a testament to the making attitude of this project and the Studio Scaramanga philosophy that high design can be attainable for everyone, on any budget. #selfbuild #somersetarchitects #highdesign
Our Somerset multi-generational barn conversion looks particularly good on this blustery spring day. Reclaimed slate cladding has a beautiful patina. The west facing 'really big window' captures the long evening light at this time of year, making the most of golden hour.

We love it when our clients are creators. This beautiful model was created by a client preparing to break ground on their new build home. We are so excited to see this project progress. As one of Studio Scaramanga's first projects, seeing the years of design work and collaboration culminating in a realised design is unbelievably rewarding. @we_are_matter #architecturalmodel #somersetarchitects #studioscaramanga
The beautiful texture in this kitchen worktop makes the space warm and inviting. Light from the generous roof light plays on the surface creating interest and breaking up the expanse of this fabulous, large island. The space has come together so well, and the finishing touches and unique design choices like this worktop finish have elevated this new kitchen.

It's great to see progress on site towards a striking glass link between the listed house and these beautiful stone stables. The stables will become a functional part of the busy farm, housing a mud room, new entrance hall and guest accommodation. #studioscaramanga #somersetarchitects #siteprogressupdate
A welcoming and functional hallway is the cornerstone of a busy country home. Rearranging the back kitchen and moving the front door has created a greater sense of arrival which leads you into the warm and light filled kitchen extension. This finished project has a lot of highlights for us, but the joinery in the hallway making this space practical and beautiful is definitely one of them. #hallwaygoals #studioscaramanga #somersetarchitects #design
Ever wonder what exactly it is that an architect offers your project? Depending on where you are in the process, your architect can offer so much. Initially it is all about finding the design that works for you, your brief and your setting whilst looking beautiful and fitting in the scope of your budget. Beyond that, we provide a bespoke service at each stage, taking you through the planning process and building regulations. We help you to build a safe, warm, and comfortable building by working closely with your wider design team and contractor to deliver your vision. Your architect is not just your designer, they are also the conductor that ensures collaboration and communication throughout your project. See each of the RIBA stages broken down into simple language in our new information boards in this reel. #demystified #somersetarchitects #architecturelovers #studioscaramanga

Planning has been submitted on this brick kitchen extension. We loved designing this striking brick extension for our clients. The brick mirrors brick details elsewhere in the building and the curved arches take inspiration from the existing garden wall. The brief was to design a garden room that links the newly renovated home to the garden and views beyond. The landscaping and integrated pizza oven add a playful and warm outdoor space that connects indoor and outdoor living. #somersetarchitects #gardenroom #bricks
This beautiful kitchen is the culmination of many months of work on site. The brief was to create a light filled and practical space that suits our chef clients professional and personal needs. The space is sociable and open. With light flooding the island from the huge roof light above the space feels connected to the outside whilst remaining cosy and warm. #somersetarchitects #kitchenextension #rooflight #studioscaramanga
Striking shadows play on the lime and basalt wall of our office space. Somewhat distracting when we are supposed to be getting work done! We love the way that the light changes in this space throughout the day. Due to the dual aspect of the room we get to enjoy the many tones and warmth of light that change with the hour, weather and seasons. #somersetarchitects #localstone #stokestmichael #monstera
I love it when a plan comes together! Here you can see how powerful a well executed and edited render can be for visualising how your project will look once it's completed. We loved visiting this ground floor extension and redesign now that our clients have had the beautiful work tops installed. These side by sides show the 3D designs signed off by the client and the completed building. #iloveitwhenaplancomestogether #studioscaramanga #somersetarchitects #completedproject
Progress on site on this renovation is cracking on. The structure for the porch is starting to really take shape. It's great to see the vision coming together. You can see how the new external finishes from the rendered image will bring a sense of calm and cohesion to the new entryway of this home. #studioscaramanga #somersetarchitects #dorset #renovation
Which would you choose? These two images show the variation possible when working to the same brief. Option one looks to capture light and warmth in the south facing courtyard. Option 2 looks to embrace the double gable and play with the symmetry of the 2 wings of the building. Both provide the client with the space and internal layout that they wanted but with a very different feel. These two options were created as part of a concept design stage. This allowed the client to pick and choose from the 2 schemes and identify their priorities for the project. We are divided. Half of us prefer option one, and the other half prefer option 2. #bespokedesign #decisionsdecisions #somersetarchitects
Seeing progress on site as our clients move through the building process is so satisfying. This open, light filled hallway with a bespoke made staircase at the centre will become a fantastic focal point of the home. Watching the design come to life on site is one of the true pleasures of being with the client throughout both the design and build process. It also allows us to consult on finishes and fine details that bring a good design to the next level. Consistency and adherence to the design have a huge impact on the quality of the final product and we love being kept on to this stage of the process. #somersetarchitects #extension #redesign #inprogress
